Manchester United Sack Louis Van Gaal #LVG

Louis van Gaal has been sacked as manager of Manchester United, the football club have confirmed.

The Dutchman was said to spend the day at Manchester United’s Carrington training ground to conclude negotiations over the terms of his compensation package and those of his coaching staff.

BBC Sport reported on Saturday that Manchester United’s FA Cup win over Crystal Palace would be LVG’s last game in charge.

The Manchester United website confirmed Louis van Gaal’s departure with immediate effect.

Executive vice chairman Ed Woodward said:

“I would like to thank Louis and his staff for their excellent work in the past two years culminating in winning a record-equalling 12th FA Cup for the club (and securing him a title in four different countries).

He has behaved with great professionalism and dignity throughout his time here. He leaves us with a legacy of having given several young players the confidence to show their ability on the highest stage. Everyone at the club wishes him all the best in the future.”

A decision on a successor as manager will be announced soon.

LVG had been in charge at Old Trafford since replacing Moyes in 2014 after leading Netherlands to third place at that summer’s World Cup, and the weekend FA Cup success at Wembley gave them their first trophy since Sir Alex Ferguson’s reign ended in 2013.

It is understood that United are now due to speak to Jose Mourinho‘s representatives about replacing Van Gaal on Tuesday.

If it all goes well Mourinho will become their third full-time manager since Sir Alex Ferguson‘s magnificent reign at the club ended with his abrupt retirement in 2013.

David Moyes lasted less than a season as successor to Fergie. Ryan Giggs became interim manager in charge of the final four matches of the 2013/14 campaign before becoming Van Gaal’s full-time assistant.
